The Twenty-Four Solar Terms Park, an open-style park themed around the traditional Chinese solar terms, is situated in Beijing. It is positioned on the east side of Yongdingmen Street, north of the South Moat River, and south of the Temple of Heaven. The park is adorned with numerous traditional-style facilities, including garden ornaments, ground stone carvings, and antique-style trellises.
Inside the park, you will find 24 solar term pillars arranged in the order of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, from east to west. These pillars are each located in one of the four main squares, which represent ‘spring sowing,’ ‘summer growth,’ ‘autumn harvest,’ and ‘winter storage.’ Each square houses six pillars, and each pillar symbolizes a specific solar term. Crafted from high-quality white marble from Ya’an, Sichuan, these stone pillars stand 7.2 meters tall and are engraved with descriptions and songs of the respective solar terms, as well as patterns that represent the characteristics of each term.
Scattered along the garden paths, you will encounter 24 stone carvings depicting the ‘flower messengers’ of the solar terms. These carvings resemble 24 graceful and beautiful young ladies, gathering in groups, which creates a charming scene and adds another layer of beauty to the park. The park is open all year round and is accessible 24 hours a day, making it a delightful destination for visitors seeking to immerse themselves in the culture and traditions of the Chinese solar terms.
