Taihu Lou Port Scenic Area, a jewel situated on the banks of the serene Taihu Lake, is part of Zhili Town in Wuxing District, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It spans across two administrative villages, Yigao and Wupu, and covers an expansive area of approximately 3000 acres. On November 8, 2016, this area was recognized for its significance and selected into the third batch of the World Irrigation Project Heritage List at the 2nd World Irrigation Forum and the 67th Executive Council of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage, which took place in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The scenic area proudly bears the name that commemorates this honor.
The scenic area is home to five historical and cultural exhibition halls: the ‘Taihu Lou Port Cultural Exhibition Hall’, ‘Woodblock Printing Art Museum’, ‘Lake Mirror Hall’, ‘Chongyi Hall’, and ‘Press Hall’. In addition to these, visitors can enjoy the picturesque scenery of the North-South Grain Transport River, ancient streets and bridges, and the Lou Port Weitian System scenery belt. The ‘Shangyi Archway Fan Family Hall, Zhu Family Ancestral Hall San Jin’ are also notable landmarks within the Taihu Lou Port Scenic Area.
This region is not only historically rich and culturally enduring but also the birthplace of Huzhou’s reputation as the ‘Land of Fish and Rice, Home of Silk’. It stands as a prominent highlight of Huzhou’s recognition as a historical and cultural city. The saying goes, “Mountains emerge in groups from Tianmu, waters flow into ports along Taihu Lake; having traveled through the beautiful lands of Jiangnan, one should live in Huzhou in life.” As we journey through the picturesque lands of Huzhou and enter the Taihu Lou Port Scenic Area, we are invited to feel the nourishment of Lou Port and quietly appreciate the wisdom of the ancient Huzhou people in their water conservancy efforts and the transformation of fertile fields.Open all year round.
