Shamenghai Calligraphy Institute

The Shamenghai Calligraphy Institute is nestled by the picturesque Dongqian Lake. It is a three-story building with distinctive national characteristics, adorned with blue bricks and green tiles. Amidst the lake views and mountain scenery, the institute and its surrounding architectural complex exude an ancient charm and a scholarly atmosphere.

The granite plaque of the institute stands proudly at the main entrance of the building. Within the grounds, there are mountains and waters, rows of green trees. Willows are the primary landscaping feature, collectively known as the ‘Garden of Ten Thousand Willows’.

Shamenghai, a renowned Chinese calligrapher from Tangxi, Yin County, is originally from a village just a few kilometers away from Dongqian Lake. Throughout his life, he left behind numerous works, many of which are preserved in the institute. On a small hill to the right of the institute lies Shamenghai’s tomb, which is designed with unique ingenuity.

The institute also hosts many calligraphy-related events throughout the year, contributing to the popularization and development of the art of calligraphy. It is open all year round from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
