Qiushi Academy

Qiushi Academy, situated in the Shangcheng District of Hangzhou City, has a rich history dating back to the 23rd year of the Guangxu period in the Qing Dynasty when Hangzhou Prefect Lin Qi established it. The academy now consists of a main hall and a side hall, both oriented north to south.

The main hall, originally the site of the Puci Temple Hall, features a facade with five bays, a single-eave hip roof, and an additional enclosed porch that creates a ‘protruding’ shape in its layout. A black and gold plaque bearing the seal script ‘Qiushi Academy’ is prominently displayed on the main facade. This open hall is characterized by six lattice doors in the central bay that lead to the enclosed porch, with square bricks paving the floor. The interior beam nodes are embellished with intricate decorative wooden elements such as substitute beams, pendant flower columns, and sparrow perches, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship.

The academy operates all year round, welcoming visitors from Tuesday to Sunday between the hours of 09:00 and 16:00.
