Lovers Valley Scenic Area, formerly known as Xin’anjiang Tongguan Gorge, is located within the Xin’anjiang National Forest Park. The scenic area features attractions such as Lovers Island, Love Square, Historical Love Poem Corridor, Mandarin Duck Waterfall, Mandarin Duck Tree, and the Heart-Heart Interlocking Pond. Couples can also engage in the tradition of hanging love locks and planting happiness trees here, bathing in the ‘River of Love’. To enter Lovers Island, one must cross a swaying suspension bridge, which is quite thrilling.
The entire scenic area covers an area of 3.2 square kilometers and is a small watershed valley environment. It includes a 30-meter-high Pearl Waterfall covered with thick moss; and a karst stream over 2000 meters long, which flows smoothly at times, forming clear springs of varying sizes and visibility, creating deep and tranquil pools such as the Heart Pond and Lovers Pond. These pools and streams are interconnected, forming a meandering mountain water landscape, known as the unique karst stream landscape in Western Zhejiang. Over 2000 years ago, Emperor Qin Shi Huang established a ‘Tongguan’ here to manage copper mining and coin casting, hence Lovers Valley is also called Tongguan Gorge. Between the Twin Horse Peaks stands a majestic Copper God Temple, built to worship the Copper God, commemorate the Tongguan, and pray for wealth.
