Fengcheng River Meiyuan Garden

Mei Lanfang, the renowned Peking Opera master, has his ancestral home in Taizhou. In commemoration of his 90th birthday in 1984, Meiyuan Garden, also known as Mei Lanfang Park, was constructed. This park is situated on the Phoenix Mound in the eastern suburbs of Taizhou, characterized by its elegant scenery and surrounded by water on three sides.

The park boasts several attractions, including Mei Lanfang’s seated statue square, a historical materials exhibition area, a Peking Opera knowledge corridor, an antique stage, a memorial pavilion dedicated to Mei Lanfang, a plum blossom area, and a waterside pavilion by the river. The historical materials exhibition hall within the park houses an extensive collection of photographs and artifacts from Mei Lanfang’s life, showcasing his activities and contributions to Peking Opera.

Plum blossoms are a prominent feature throughout the park, symbolizing the master’s surname and his character. In early spring, the park is adorned with fully bloomed plum blossoms, their fragrance filling the air. The plum blossom pavilion, located in the northwest corner of the park, is particularly noteworthy. Designed in the shape of a pentagonal plum blossom, the pavilion’s eaves, pillars, and seats all echo this floral theme. Under the eaves, on the inner side of the purlin, woodcarvings depicting scenes from the master’s five representative plays, such as ‘Drunken Beauty,’ are intricately inlaid.

To the east of the pavilion stands a vibrant white marble seated statue of Mei Lanfang, which appears particularly dynamic against the backdrop of spring. The pavilion’s plaque and the white marble statue were respectively inscribed and created by Zhao Puchu and Liu Kaiqu, adding to the cultural and artistic significance of the park.Peking Opera enthusiasts often gather at the Taizhou Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall to showcase their vocal talents. The hall is open all year round, with operating hours from 08:30 to 17:30.

For your convenience, there is a parking lot available at the venue. The Taizhou Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall Parking Lot offers free parking and has 200 spaces to accommodate visitors. The address for the parking lot is around Taizhou Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall, No. 90, Yingchun East Road, Hailing District, Taizhou City, Jiangsu Province.
