The China Bee Museum, nestled within the Beijing Botanical Garden to the west of the Wofosi Temple, offers a fascinating journey into the world of bees. Its permanent exhibition, titled “Bees are Friends of Humanity,” is both a scientific and educational display that delves into the significance of bees in various aspects of life.
The museum is organized into three distinct exhibition halls, which together present over 500 images and more than 700 specimens, models, and physical objects. The topics covered in the exhibition are diverse, ranging from the origin and evolution of bees to the history of beekeeping in ancient China. It also explores bees in culture and art, the resources of bees and nectar plants in China, and the biological characteristics of bees along with the production of bee products.
Furthermore, the exhibition highlights the crucial role of bees in pollination and their impact on crop yield increase. It also touches on the health benefits of bee products and the practice of bee therapy. Visitors can gain insights into the achievements of China’s beekeeping industry, as well as an overview of the global beekeeping industry and international scientific exchanges.
A standout feature of the museum is a 23-million-year-old bee fossil, which is considered the museum’s prized possession. The China Bee Museum is not only a repository of knowledge but also a place where visitors, especially primary and secondary school students, can foster an interest in bee science and biology.
