The Ancient Pottery Civilization Museum, situated near the charming Beijing Daguan Garden, stands as one of the first private museums in Beijing. It officially opened its doors on June 15, 1997. This museum is dedicated to the theme of pottery culture, which is regarded as the precursor to human civilization and the origin of human art. It has earned the reputation of ‘the art of the five elements.’ Pottery also symbolizes the beauty and wisdom of the Chinese nation.
The museum’s collection boasts an impressive array of artifacts, including over a hundred Neolithic painted pottery pieces and pottery from the Zhou, Qin, and Han dynasties. It also houses more than three hundred pieces of Waring and Qin-Han tile ends, as well as over a thousand Qin-Han sealing clay pieces. With a total of approximately 2,000 pieces, the collection paints a nearly complete and vivid history of ancient pottery civilization.
Beyond hosting exhibitions, the museum is committed to exploring the potential charm and value of its collections. It designs and produces a variety of tourist crafts, from curtains and cloth bags to original rubbings and silk screen printing products.
